Florida State University spinoff Educational Development Group is offering PortStar, security training online or in the classroom, to America's 350 commercial ports. The program follows a five-year development launched by a $6.2-million research grant from the Department of Homeland Security, which sought a comprehensive system for training port workers, security guards and law enforcement officers. The company's curriculum, approved by both the Coast Guard and FEMA, is estimated to cost about 35% less than purely instructor-led training.
